FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Joe Ready is officially the first certified candidate on the Democratic ballot for the Northern Middlesex Register of Deeds, having submitted more than 1,000 certified signatures in just over a month - thanks to the help of a team of dedicated supporters and volunteers.
Ready, an experienced Real Estate Broker with a background in management, is committed to continuing to modernize the operations of the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds, making its processes as efficient and user friendly as possible and providing constituents with a superior level of consumer protection and education.
“My aim is to modernize the Registry by providing state-of-the-art tools that empower the public to safeguard themselves against fraud, enhancing user search functions, and expanding accessibility through language services,” he said. “Simultaneously, I strive to uphold top-tier registry operations and customer service by recording, indexing, and maintaining our land records effectively.”
A super-user of Registry services for decades, Ready has a well-rounded career history which makes him uniquely qualified for the position.
He first became aware of the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds at just 16-years-old. Ready was interning at WLLH-AM with legendary morning radio host and Lowell Sun columnist Paul Sullivan. Sullivan’s producer was then-Assistant Register of Deeds Tony Accardi, who gave young Joe a private tour of the Registry – in a time when title exams were still performed using paper books.
At 18-years-old, the entrepreneurial Ready started his first company – Horizon Mortgage Recording – couriering notarized real estate documents from lawyers in Greater Lowell to registries statewide.
“I remember standing in long lines in Cambridge and just praying I could get back in line fast enough to get my other closing packages recorded in time,” he said. “It was a fun business, but I already knew online recording would make my business obsolete.”
Ready worked full time in the Registrar and Admission’s office at Suffolk Law School, taking advantage of the employee benefits to earn his bachelor’s degree at Suffolk business school at night for free. “While putting himself through college, Joe proactively spearheaded our department’s transition from paper applications to digital records,” said former Suffolk Law Colleague, Mark Kleinschnittger.
Ready went on to manage and lead the staff in the Career Services Office at Harvard Law School under the leadership of Assistant Dean Mark Weber, then-Harvard Law faculty member Elizabeth Warren, and now-U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. “His remarkable creativity, superb work ethic, exceptional character, and ability to efficiently handle the day-to-day operations significantly contributed to the office's success,” said Weber.
Ready felt a pull to get back to the real estate field and left Harvard Law to start his Real Estate Brokerage in Chelmsford. He is the only candidate in the race that has a Real Estate Broker license, which requires significantly more education, knowledge and experience than a sales license.
“During my 13-year career as a broker, I introduced and enforced policies and procedures while providing substantial management, oversight, education and training to real estate sales agents within my company,” said Ready, who recently sold his Brokerage to Shannon Anderson of Century 21 Your Way to fully commit himself to his campaign.
Many people do not interact with the Registry of Deeds on a daily basis, and may not understand all of the critical functions it provides to the 10 communities it serves. To effectively oversee the Registry of Deeds, a candidate must exhibit leadership skills, strong management capabilities, an in-depth knowledge of real estate and conveyancing, familiarity with recording and indexing standards, sound accounting practices, innovative thinking, and the capacity to enhance technological implementations by setting clear goals, establishing priorities, and ensuring accountability among third-party government software vendors.
While Ready was not the first candidate to throw his hat into the ring, he is the most qualified. Aptly named, he is indeed “Ready” to hit the ground running in the role of Register of Deeds, bringing decades of experience, fresh ideas, and a willingness to explore and use cutting-edge technology to bring the services and operations of the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds to the next level.
He urges voters who may have committed to another candidate prior to his entrance to the race to look at what he can bring to the table. This race is not a popularity contest. It is about hiring someone to do the job; a job Ready has been preparing for his entire adult life, gaining experiences that have set him up to be ready and able to tackle the job on day one.
“I am truly passionate about this opportunity, and will work even harder to earn your vote and win the election on September 3,” he said. “Together, we are Ready to build an accessible, responsive and secure Registry.”
